Our Aim

To encourage and support therapeutic education about diabetes and the rapid diffusion of acquired scientific knowledge in the field.

This Website

is intended for all Health Professionals interested in Therapeutic Patient Education in the field of diabetes. It was not conceived for people with diabetes. However it provides several links to relevant websites for those who seek information on diabetes for personal reasons (see Counseling).
2010 DESG GC Workshop - 20 to 23 January, Paris

This year's GC Workshop will take place in Paris, from 20th to 23rd January.

More than 60 participantes from 14 countries are expected to attend this meeting to discuss "The road to Patient Centeredness - How to go beyond good intentions"

For an effective Therapeutic Education of people with diabetes, health care professionals need to change many time-honoured attitudes, in order to acquire competencies and skills which have not traditionally been taught in professional or medical schools, and to organize differently their professional time and space with respect to the way it is usually utilised.

The training of health operators in patient education

Patient education is recognised as an essential therapeutic tool in all chronic diseases, but is not yet inserted into normal curricula for doctors or other health operators. Things are changing, however, in certain experimental medical courses in Europe and the United States and in numerous paramedical university diplomas, in which training in patient education is becoming a basic subject.
